Origin Africa

Origin is unique, it is the UK’s first 100% not-for-profit fashion brand.

The Origin founders, married couple Alice and Tom Cracknell, were inspired by the writing of Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize winner and social entrepreneur, who championed the concept of businesses having a tangible and positive impact through driving social change. Tom is an Emergency Medicine doctor working in the UK for the NHS, who has previously spent much of his career working in Africa. Alice had worked for many international charities and when the two of them met they found they shared a passion for international development and poverty alleviation. In 2018 they were inspired to set up an ethical fashion brand which could help reverse the negative effects of fast fashion and actually contribute positively to social change and freedom for those living in poverty.

The business model in a nutshell: Origin creates planet-friendly clothing which is sold in the UK,  100% of the profits are then used to fund social impact initiatives in Africa.
Not only is the ethical fashion brand built on sustainable and ethical production, it is also using it’s profits to help change lives. The clothing and iconic designs have become popular across the UK including many celebrity fans such as Fearne Cotton and Gemma Atkinson and has featured on the BBC, ITV, Forbes, The Metro, The Evening Standard and You Magazine. Origin is proving that fashion can be a force for good!
